Super-Mum of two cuties and Domayne’s gorgeous Bedding Product and Marketing Manager.

Here Fiona shares her thoughts on motherhood as well as her Domayne Mother’s Day wishlist.

Motherhood is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done in my life, and also the most challenging. Working full-time, weekends are spent trying to cram in as much time as I can with my glorious children, it leaves little time of my own. The biggest gift of all would be time to myself to just sit and be…every moment you get is precious. I like texture, luxury and a few little things to call my own, I’m a home-body too and working at Domayne you come across so many beautiful things – here are a few of my favourites for this season…

1. My chair of choice to curl up on is the Molmic ‘Mojo’ armchair teamed with the gorgeous ‘Dimple’ ottoman. Not only do these products have style and grace with quality that will last for years, they’re extremely comfortable and they’re Aussie-Made!

Also, as anyone with kids would know, cleaning is a must – so to remove the cover easily for laundering is a treat in itself! 5. My favourite bedlinen is Shannon Fricke’s ‘Flowers in the Field’. I love the way it billows over the bed and is so soft and pretty. I bought this for my daughter’s bed but could definitely have it on my own…

Brekkie in Bed

Give your Mum a reason to rise and shine (after a lengthy sleep-in, of course) on her special day by serving up a sumptuous breakfast in the comfort of her cosy bed. From pancakes and fruit salad to eggs and French toast…spoil her rotten in style by including a dainty vase of fresh flowers, an assortment of her favourite magazines and a homemade card from the kids. Bliss!

Fabulous Family Lunch

Create a picture-perfect setting for a relaxed yet elegant Mother’s Day feast, with fragrant blooms and an exquisite arrangement of vintage-styled dinnerware. Add thoughtful decorative details for Mum to discover as she catches up with loved ones over a long lunch. Try ribbon-wrapped gifts, jewel-hued glassware, fine china, a framed family portrait or a tiered cake stand – she’ll appreciate the effort.

An Afternoon of R&R

What better way to end your Mum’s special day than to give her the afternoon off? Rest and relaxation are highly valued (and rarely experienced) pursuits for most busy Mums, so why not treat yours with some quiet time to curl up in a comfy armchair with a good book.  Evoke a tranquil setting with delicately perfumed candles and a piping hot cup of tea or coffee for good measure. If your Mum is more of a movie buff, encourage her to put her feet up and lounge around in front of a chick flick – of her choice, of course. Don’t forget the popcorn!

Make your Mother’s Day a memorable one by spoiling her with an indulgent morning tea complete with these dainty, melt-in-your-mouth meringue swirls.

Meringues

Preparation time: 30 mins
Cooking time: 2 ½ hours for the meringues
Makes about 24

4 egg whites, at room temperature
Pinch of salt
1 cup caster sugar
3 tsp cornflour, sifted
1 tsp white vinegar
Pink food colouring
Green food colouring

1. Preheat oven to 100C. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper. Using an electric mixer, beat egg whites and salt until soft peaks form. With beater motor running, slowly add sugar 1-2 tablespoons at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat until sugar has dissolved and mixture is thick and glossy. (Rub a little of meringue between fingers. If mixture feels gritty beat a little longer). Add cornflour and vinegar and beat until just combined.
2. Divide mixture into 2 separate bowls. Colour one quantity with 4-5 drops of pink food colouring or until desired colour. Colour remaining meringue with 5-6 drops of green food colouring or until desired colour. Spoon meringue mixtures into separate piping bags fitted with 1.5cm fluted nozzle. Pipe 12 pink meringue onto one of the prepared trays and green meringues onto remaining tray. Bake in oven for 2 ½ hours swapping trays around half way through cooking time, or until meringues are crisp and sound hollow when tapped on the base. Turn oven off and allow meringues to cool in oven with door slightly ajar. When completely cold, store in an airtight container.
